Hey all,
Great work on the recordings. To those who need to rerecord, we’ll look forward to hearing that next week as well. I realize that it’s a bit difficult to completely grasp a software program like ProTools in under 2 hours, and as you work this week, do populate the blog with your questions.
So for this next assignment:
1. First, Cut your samples. Pick your most interesting, your best recorded, samples… cut them, put fades on them if need be, and save the region you’ve cut with a familiar and memorable file name so you can recognize it.
2. Next, Create a number of new tracks, let’s say 4-8. Remember that you can drag your files from the region list or from within the edit window to ANY one of those tracks. Duplicate, Arrange, Loop, Time Shift, Pitch Shift at will… Make something that YOU want to listen to over and over, that satisfies YOU. I know I’m giving you an open canvas here… we’ll get into more compositional detail next week. Just exercise the muscle of this kind of decision-making, and keep track of how your brain works, so you can adequately explain or discuss how you went about putting your piece together. You may not be able to describe it, and that’s okay too. This is just to show you the possibilities… if you get stuck, post to the blog.
I’d also like to put out this question to you, for any or all of you… If I can work it out, would it support you to have two extra ‘office hours’ with me before class on Monday, where we could work one on one in a ‘lab’ sort of environment? I realize many of you should have classes, but if you don’t, and if you’d like some extra time to work with what you’ve got, next Monday is one day where I could make that work. Alternatively, I’d be willing to stay for an hour afterwards… Please just comment onto this post so I can guage interest and need.
Thanks, and more to come later… Todd
